Osahene Katekyi Busumakura III, Omanhene of Takoradi, on Saturday called on the people to collaborate with the government and development partners to transform the traditional area into the hub of the country’s economic growth.
He made the call at the 10th anniversary celebration of his enstoolment in Takoradi.
Osahene Busumakura said the people should be ready to play their part to make their communities and the nation “Great and strong”.
He said he is aware of challenges in the area and his chiefs and elders are actively engaged with him in finding solutions to them to improve the lives of the people.
“We are working closely not only with government but also with corporate bodies and other partners in development,” Osahene Busumakura said.
He said: “In the years ahead, we are determined not only to see Takoradi and its environs as the hub of the country’s economic growth but to see to it that the growth really provides tangible benefits to our people and to make life increasingly satisfying to them.”
Reverend Frempong Manso, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, said traditional rulers have a rule to play in national development.
He said they could provide the leadership that could ensure grassroots development and leadership.
Reverend Manso urged traditional rulers to plan development projects for their areas and ask the government to assist implement them.
He asked the government to involve traditional rulers in national discussions and decision making processes.
Reverend Manso called on traditional rulers to modernise obsolete customs and to campaign against homosexuality.
Reverend Fred Deegbe, Head of the Christian Council of Ghana, spoke of the qualities of a godly leader, which he said include humility and service to mankind.
He said a good leader works hard to serve and share what he has achieved and does not “Pull others down”.
